How Do We Help You Maintain Your North Carolina Log Home or Cabin?

We take care of it as if it were our own home, simple as that.  Many of our customers do not live in their log homes full time as they are used as vacation homes.  This makes it tough for out-of-town log home owners to properly care for and maintain their log homes.  Even if you live in the home full time, it's a lot of work when it comes time to do maintenance and many homeowners either forget, or just don't feel any urgency to get the maintenance work completed.

Don't Neglect Your Log Home!  It could end up costing you a lot of money in repairs.  With our maintenance service plans we can keep your log home looking new.  We can give you the peace of mind that everything is like it should be, leaving you one less thing to worry about.

Once we restore your log home completely we can set you up with one of our maintenance plans.  Once or twice a year we can come out give the log home a light wash and do a thorough inspection from top to bottom.  We inspect for insect damage, water damage, chinking or caulking that has seperated and the stain itself.

If you’d like to receive an estimate to stain or restain your log home or cabin then please give us a call (336) 488-3277 or send us an email through our contact form today!

Log Home Maintenance

Log Homes & Cabins Require Regular Maintenance And Care

Inspection for Damage or Wear:

Conduct a thorough inspection of the exterior logs, looking for signs of insect infestation, rot, mold, mildew, and water damage. Special attention is given to areas prone to moisture accumulation and the sun's exposure, which are common in North Carolina's climate.

Cleaning the Exterior:

Clean the logs using a gentle method such as soft washing or low-pressure power washing to remove dirt, grime, algae, and any loose stain or paint, preparing the surface for further treatment.

Applying Fungicide and Insecticide Treatments:

Treat the wood with fungicide and insecticide solutions to protect against common North Carolina pests like termites, carpenter bees, and wood-boring beetles, as well as to prevent fungal growth.

Checking and Sealing Gaps:

Inspect and seal any gaps or cracks with high-quality caulk or chinking materials to prevent water infiltration, air leaks, and insect entry, paying close attention to windows, doors, and joinery.

Applying UV Protection:

Because North Carolina experiences strong UV exposure, especially during the summer, applying a UV-protectant stain or sealant is crucial to prevent fading and degradation of the wood.

Staining or Restaining:

Apply a fresh coat of stain or restain the exterior to enhance the wood's natural beauty and provide an additional layer of protection against moisture, UV rays, and insects.

Repairing or Replacing Damaged Logs:

Replace or repair any logs that have been significantly damaged by rot, insects, or other environmental factors to maintain the structural integrity of the home.

Maintaining Gutters and Downspouts:

Clean and ensure gutters and downspouts are functioning correctly to prevent water from pooling around the foundation, which can lead to moisture-related issues in the logs.

Trimming Vegetation:

Keep trees, shrubs, and other vegetation trimmed back from the home to reduce shade and moisture on the logs and to prevent organic matter from accumulating against the wood, which can promote rot.

Applying Borate Treatments:

For additional protection against rot and insects, apply borate treatments to the logs. This is especially beneficial in the humid North Carolina climate, where such problems are prevalent.

Inspecting and Maintaining Decks and Railings:

Inspect and maintain any wooden decks, railings, and other attached structures for signs of wear, staining, or sealing as needed to ensure they remain safe and aesthetically pleasing.

Regular Monitoring for Moisture Issues:

Given North Carolina's propensity for humidity and rain, regularly monitor the home for signs of moisture issues, including checking for proper drainage around the home's foundation.

We recently purchased a log home built in the 80's that was not maintained properly. Jason and his crew replaced logs, media blasted to get rid of old, worn wood, sealed and stained the home. The home was much more efficient this winter and the logs look so refreshed with the new stain. Our home looks as close to new as it could thanks to WoodTeks.

We were looking for someone to strip and stain our log home and we came upon Woodteks. Jason and his crew did a fantastic job. They are very professional. We could not be more pleased with the final outcome. Jason met with us and explained the entire process completely. The logs were stripped and cleaned then our whole house was stained. We had a bad experience once before with a different company's stain crew but Jason's crew did a phenomenal job. No streaks or runs. Very happy that we found them! We would recommend them to anyone who is wanting a professional job and they cleaned up well. We absolutely love the final product.
